A gold counter, not a sales floor

Midtown Gold Buyers exists for one transaction: you have gold, we buy it, you leave with money. No consignment, no appraisal fee, no upsell into a trade-in.

The scale faces the customer. Always.
Who we are

Buyers on the ninth floor at 30 West 47th

The Diamond District is a strange place for a first-time seller. Two blocks of windows, dozens of people on the sidewalk offering to "walk you upstairs," and no obvious way to tell who is a licensed buyer and who is a runner working on commission. We built this business to be the boring, straightforward option in the middle of that.

We buy gold in every form it comes in — jewelry, scrap, coins, bars, dental, industrial. We test everything at the counter, in front of you. We price off the live spot market, not off a laminated chart from last quarter. And when a piece turns out to be plated or filled, we say so and hand it back instead of quietly folding it into a lowball number for the whole lot.

How we arrive at your number

There are only four variables in a gold offer, and none of them are secret:

  1. The spot price — the live global price per troy ounce of pure gold.
  2. Purity — 14K is 58.5% gold, 18K is 75%, 22K is 91.6%, 24K is 99.9%.
  3. Weight — measured on a calibrated scale, after stones and non-gold parts are deducted.
  4. The payout rate — the percentage of that melt value we pay, which scales up with the size of the lot.

Multiply the first three and you have melt value. Apply the fourth and you have your offer. We show you each step on paper. If a buyer will not do that, you are being asked to trust a number instead of check one.

What we do differently

We test in the open. Acid testing for marked pieces, electronic conductivity testing, and XRF spectrometry for anything unmarked, unusual or high value. Nothing goes into a back room.

We weigh in front of you. The scale faces the customer. You see the gross weight, you see what gets deducted, you see the net.

We tell you when something is worth more intact. A signed Cartier piece, a pre-1933 US gold coin in good condition, or a rare Krugerrand date is often worth more to a collector than to a refiner. Melting those would be more profitable for us and worse for you, so we flag it.

We do not chase you. There is no follow-up call, no "final offer expires today," no runner escorting you to the elevator. If our number is not the best one you got that day, take the better one.

The scale faces the customer. That single detail tells you most of what you need to know about any gold buyer.

Who sells to us

People cleaning out a parent's jewelry box. Collectors trimming a bullion position. Estate attorneys and executors settling an inventory. Jewelers offloading bench scrap and old trade-ins. Someone who just found a bag of broken chains in a drawer and wants to know if it is worth anything. All of it is welcome, and none of it is too small to test.

Where to find us

30 West 47th Street, 9th Floor, between Fifth and Sixth Avenue. Take the B, D, F or M to 47–50 St–Rockefeller Center and you are half a block away. The 7 at Fifth Avenue–Bryant Park and the N, Q, R, W at 49th Street are both a short walk. There is no parking on the block worth attempting — take the train.

Talk to a buyer

Same-day callback during business hours.

No obligation. We'll call or email you back the same business day. Nothing is bought or sold until you say yes.

The process

What a visit actually looks like

1

Walk in

Ninth floor at 30 West 47th. No appointment, no sign-in sheet, no pressure. Bring whatever you have, sorted or not.

2

We test it

Acid and electronic testing at the counter, plus XRF for anything unmarked. You watch every step. Nothing leaves your sight.

3

See the math

Live spot price Ă— purity Ă— weight, then our payout rate. We show you the calculation, not just a number on a slip.

4

Get paid

Cash on the spot for most transactions, check or wire for larger lots. Say no and you walk out with your gold — that's it.

Questions

About the business

Are you a licensed precious metals dealer?

Yes. We operate as a licensed second-hand dealer in precious metals in New York City and keep the purchase records the state and city require. That is also why we ask every seller for a government-issued photo ID.

How long have you been buying gold in the Diamond District?

Our team has spent years on 47th Street working with refiners, estate buyers and the wholesale trade. That relationship with the refining side is what lets us quote closer to spot than a retail jeweler who only buys gold occasionally.

Do you buy from other jewelers and dealers?

Yes. We handle wholesale lots, dealer overflow and estate liquidations. Call ahead for anything above a few hundred grams so we can have the cash ready and set aside time for the assay.
